Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., reported December 2012 sales of 194,143 units. This brought the yearly total to 2,082,504 vehicles, up 26.6 percent over last year.
In total, TMS posted December sales of 30,788 hybrids, up 38 percent over the same period last year.
TMS hybrid sales in 2012 totaled 327,413 units, up 83.3 percent over 2011.
The Toyota Division posted December sales of 25,870 hybrids, up 38.7 percent, and year-end sales of 289,163 hybrids, an increase of more than 90 percent.
The Lexus Division posted monthly sales of 4,918 hybrids, up 34.1 percent versus December 2011, and 38,250 units for the year, up 35 percent. The CT entry luxury hybrid sedan recorded December sales of 1,598 units, and increased 22.9 percent annually with year-end sales of 17,673 units.
The Prius represented a good portion of Toyota’s yearly sales. The Prius Family saw 2012 sales of 236,659 units, a 73.4 percent increase over last year. In December, Prius Family sales increased 22.4 percent over the same month last year with 20,040 units.
Broken down by Prius model, the Prius Liftback represented 147,507 units sold, 15.3 percent better than 2011; the Prius v represented 40,669 units in its first full year of sales and the Prius c represented 35,733 units. The plug-in version of the Liftback reached 12,750 sales.
TMS does not break down sales of other models like the Camry Hybrid or Highlander Hybrid, so we can’t yet report exact numbers for those. They will be included in our 2012 Dashboard, soon to be online.
