The all-new Infiniti Q50 sedan unveiled yesterday at the Detroit Auto Show is the first model revealed under the automaker’s new model naming convention, and will have an optional hybrid drivetrain.
The Q50 is powered by a 328-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 that carries over from the G37, or a new hybrid powertrain that generates 354 horsepower from a 3.5L V6 and an electric motor. Standard equipment is a seven-speed automatic transmission with downshift rev matching and dual-clutch.
Both powertrains will be offered with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Debuted in the Q50 is Infiniti’s new is Infiniti Direct Adaptive Steering and Active Lane Control.
The new steering system allows advanced control of the Q50′s tire angle, transmitting the driver’s steering inputs to the wheels faster than a mechanical system according to the automaker. Four different steering settings are offered, allowing customization by driver preference or road conditions. Active Lane Control uses a camera-based lane marker detection system to help keep drivers centered in driving lanes.
Infiniti also added its new InTouch infotainment system, and improved smart phone app integration. Pricing for the Q50 hasn’t yet been announced, but the company says the car will hit dealer showrooms sometime this summer.
“We challenged ourselves with this new Infiniti Q50 to take another great leap in terms of proportion, Infiniti-ness and premium quality,” said Infiniti Chief Creative Officer, Shiro Nakamura. “It presents a new benchmark of Infiniti’s sedan leadership.”
