Mazda Canada announced sales for May 2013 totaling 6,904 units, which represents a decrease of 2 percent compared to May 2012.
Total year-to-date sales of 30,324 are holding steady through the first five months of 2013.
Sales in May were led in Canada by the compact Mazda3, with 4,002 units sold.
Over 55 percent of all Mazda3′s sold in May were equipped with the fuel-efficient SKYACTIV Technology.
SKYACTIV Technology-equipped models accounted for 64 percent of total Mazda vehicles sold in May.
For 2014, the CX-5 offers a more powerful 2.5L engine, which features 184 horsepower and excellent fuel economy. This new engine choice for the CX-5 helped push sales higher, increasing the year-over-year sales by 42 percent for the best sales month on record so far.
“When the CX-5 was introduced just over a year ago, it put the crossover segment on notice with excellent fuel economy and driving dynamics,” said Kory Koreeda, president, Mazda Canada. “Now with the new, more powerful 2.5L engine, the CX-5 appeals to even more consumers, and it shows with the best sales month to date.”
Sales of the all-new SKYACTIV Mazda6 continue to increase, with a 7 percent gain over May 2012.
The Mazda2 and MX-5 also experienced positive gains in May, increasing 13 percent and 37 percent, respectively.
Total sales in number of units stayed close to 2012 levels even though the models mentioned are all seeing increases in sales because of the smaller number of models offered this year by Mazda.
The company has stopped selling the Ford-sourced Tribute, representing 444 sales year-to-date in May 2012, as well as the CX-7 (1,878 units YTD, May 2012) and the RX-8 (30 units YTD, May 2012).
