It took less than a month from June 5 to just recently to crest past 100,000 signatures a Tesla fan created asking the U.S. government to intervene on Tesla Motors’ behalf.
The 100,000 signature mark was the minimum needed, and this past weekend Tesla sent an e-mail asking for more signatures, crossed the boundary, and now the White House must take heed.
A response is now expected in a reasonable time frame from the Obama administration on what auto dealer associations might argue is states’ rights.
As has been well documented, Tesla has been fighting state auto dealer associations with some successes and some losses in a war of wills and ideals either for or against Tesla’s factory direct sales and service model.
Tesla has consistently argued it wishes to cut out the middleman and is best qualified to represent the unique value its cars offer, and now the White House is expected to get involved.
Auto dealer associations that have opposed Tesla demand the company abide by state franchise laws.
We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
