Volkswagen expands car-sharing project with Quicar Plus option

Quicar Plus: Volkswagen expands car sharing project

Extended usage times and additional models bring even great flexibility
Quicar pre-registration at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles customer center

Wolfsburg/Hanover, 13 October 2011 - Volkswagen is adding a new option called "Quicar Plus" to its "Quicar" car sharing project that kicks off in Hanover in November. Apart from longer usage times the new offering also features additional Volkswagen models such as the up!, the new Beetle, Passat Variant, Sharan, Golf Cabriolet, Transporter and Caravelle. From today, anyone interested in the car sharing project can pre-register for Quicar at the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles customer center in Hanover.

A total of 200 Golf BlueMotion will be available for Quicar short-term rental. Now, some 70 additional vehicles will be put into use under Quicar Plus. This new option is especially suited to longer usage times and for longer distances, such as mini-breaks or business trips. The minimum rental period for Quicar Plus is ten hours. Unlike Quicar, the vehicles must be collected from one of three Volkswagen dealerships in Hanover or from the new Quicar shop. The new up! can be rented between 8.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. at a charge of €30, the Beetle for €40 and the Golf Cabriolet or Passat Variant for €50.

Quicar customers can book Quicar Plus vehicles 24/7, either by phone or via the internet. There is an optional delivery and collection service. All Quicar Plus models have efficient engines (e.g. the Passat Variant BlueMotion, which consumes 4.3 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers), high-quality equipment (navigation system, sound system, Climatronic, etc.) and have white bodywork (no Quicar branding). The up! is the first vehicle in the small car segment to be fitted with a City Emergency Braking system.

The "Quicar" car sharing project

Volkswagen is launching its new Quicar car sharing concept in the Lower Saxony capital in November. The cars will initially be available at some 50 pick-up and drop-off locations – in the medium term, 100 such stations are planned across the city.

A first-time registration fee of €25 is payable to sign up with Quicar. Minimum rental time is 30 minutes (€6), and rental will thereafter be charged to the nearest minute at 20 euro cents per 60 seconds. There will also be an attractive parking tariff. Anyone parking their Quicar model during the rental period will only pay 10 euro cents per minute. Customers undertaking to perform services such as filling up with fuel themselves will be rewarded with a time credit for their next rental. A fuel card located in the glove compartment can be used to fill up the car free of charge.
