Electric vehicle drivers in San Jose, Calif. can now utilize new EV charging services provided by CarCharging at the County of Santa Clara Civic Center employee parking lot located at 950 North San Pedro Street.
The county has designated 12 parking spaces for EV charging use by county employees or the public.
“The County of Santa Clara is committed to initiatives that help protect the environment,” said President George Shirakawa, Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. “Offering this service to the public is one way we can further contribute.”
Earlier this year, the county celebrated the completion of the county's 5.6-megawatt Solar Photovoltaic Project, which includes the installation of photovoltaic systems at eight county sites. The new EV charging stations are located under one of the new solar canopies at the civic center parking lot site.
“As an early member of the Bay Area Climate Change Collaborative, Santa Clara County has demonstrated its 'green' leadership. Our solar panels are already returning power to the grid, now we can go a step further by using them to support public use of electric vehicles,” said Santa Clara County Supervisor Dave Cortese.
The EV charging services at the county parking lot are provided via dual-headed Coulomb units connected to the ChargePoint network. CarCharging's services utilize Coulomb Technologies' EV charging station, known as Level II, which provides 240 volts with 32 amps of power to quickly refuel an electric vehicle's battery.
