In honor of National Plug In Day 2012, ChargePoint today announced it is offering free ChargePoint cards to electric vehicle drivers.
Free cards are available from now through National Plug In Day Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012.
ChargePoint is considered the largest network of independently owned charging stations in the world, and using a ChargePoint card allows EV drivers to easily access charging stations, pay any charging fees, start and stop a charging session, and track their energy usage.
For National Plug In Day 2012, there will be events in more than 50 cities across the United States this year. Each event will be led by local plug-in drivers and advocates and will include EV parades, ride-and-drives, electric tailgate parties, press conferences, award ceremonies, informational booths, and more.
Plug In America, Sierra Club, and the Electric Auto Association serve as the national team providing support to the events throughout the country. EV owners can up sign up for a free ChargePoint card by visiting: www.chargepoint.com/pluginday.
“We are happy to help promote National Plug In Day by encouraging drivers to plug in using their free ChargePoint card,” said Pat Romano president and CEO of ChargePoint. “EV drivers plug in to ChargePoint nearly four thousand times every day. We are also encouraging businesses and drivers to declare their support for electric vehicles and public charging by using the Twitter hashtag #EVchargingpledge.”
Organizers of National Plug In Day 2012 expect thousands of people in some 60 cities coast-to-coast—more than double last year’s count—will celebrate plug-in vehicles for the second annual National Plug In Day.
Events from Spokane to Sarasota will highlight the fun, clean-air benefits, and cost-savings of electric cars with ride ‘n drives, rallies, tailgate parties, charging-infrastructure demos, EV-readiness awards, and more.
Among the plug-in vehicles available for ride-n-drives will be (changing according to location):
Tesla Model S, Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt, Mitsubishi iMiEV, Plug-in Prius, Ford Focus EV, Honda Fit EV, Fisker Karma, BMW ActiveE, Coda, Zero Motorcycles, Tesla Roadster and Toyota RAV4 EV.
